Synopsis
Lords of Dogtown tells the radical true story behind the three teenage surfers from Venice beach, California, who took skateboarding to the extreme and change the world of sports forever. Stacey Peralta, Tony Alva and Jay Adams are the Z-Boys, a bunch of nobodies until they create a new style of skateboarding that becomes a worldwide phenomenon. But when their hobby becomes a business, the success shreds their friendship.
Review
Lords Of Dogtown is a triumph. It was a joy to watch and we're incredibly impressed by Emile Hirsch. He reminds us of River Phoenix [RIP] - which is both cool and exciting. Heath Ledger also rocks (Sasha and I think he's a tad underrated, actually) - ditto Victor Rasuk. It's also, obviously tres cool that Nikki is in the mix - but this really is a film about the boys and even though we love Nikki to death, we didn't mind the fact she wasn't a central character. On a side note - we did squee at the fact that Nikki's dad did his thang for LoD ie: art design. Also, if you enjoy classic rock? OMG! The soundtrack kicks! You must get it!
The movie is available in three versions. The Theatrical release, Unrated and doubled with the original Z-Boys documentary, or just the Unrated version on it's own. If you love skateboarding however, we recommend the double pack :)
